Hi guys!

It seems that when I did a "Wall Dancer" doll for Christmas In July & posted on Facebook many commented on it's whimsy! After selling 1400+ of them I needed the break & recycling found objects was & is a riot!

Then the "KericTures" were 'born'. Now needing a break ~laughing~ from them........... I started the 'gals' again. They are fun as I sit here with 1 more doll to paint, 2 "KeRicTures" to paint & 2 found object pieces ready to be assembled. OY! But all is good & I hope this year brings love, joy & happiness to you all. Hugs.

I am getting emails asking how my treatment is going. I think posting it here rather than writing everyone individually is easiest. It's been 5 weeks & I am still infusing my antibiotics. We are on my 4th med. I'm doing good, creating like crazy & enjoying the holidays with my family. For all of you who wrote I love you for your wonderful caring hearts. I truly am blessed by so much. Well my dear friends from my family to yours we wish you a beautiful New Year with all your wishes becoming a reality! The holidays here were beautiful filled with love. I have been infusing antibiotics for my Lyme for 5 weeks now but I'm doing great. Rex our pup is now the size of Martha our 5 yr. old lab. I feel so blessed for all of the beautiful things & people who are my heart. My Sissy "Sheenie" did this gorgeous portrait of me as my Christmas present & made my daughter Kelly an angel so Kel will stop trying to rip mine off! To my old 'buds' you know how much I love you & we have gone through so much together. To my new 'buds' I look forward to knowing you more!

The last day of the dead piece I did was a RIOT! I picked those pieces & these pieces at the flea market the same day so I decided to use these babies up! Again had a blast but used my polymer to make polymer flowers for all over her face & dress & the skulls for his garb. This I had fun with too. Hoping your weekends are rockin'!Hugs.

I Am A Face Of Lyme Anybody close to me knows that. Many have been on my journey with me for many years. Every May which is Lyme Awareness month my 11th pic-line picture gets posted as my avatar for the month. Well I am on pic-line 12. Really felt that I was done on 11 but Lyme is an insidious disease. They threaded it to my heart yesterday. I will be giving myself 2 infusions of antibiotics a day. I will flush with saline, hook up my antibiotic, flush with saline again & then administer Herapin to keep my line from clotting. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in February 2002 and that kept me literally bed-bound where the first 300 “Wall Dancers” were made in bed. Since I have sold over 1400 dolls & many of my recycled found object sculptures & the "KeRicTures". Why would I show this? Or talk about it? Because I get out of bed when I am sick. I do my art & keep busy & live my life. My 'story' is so many peoples stories. My hope is that they too will start doing the things they love or loved. Get out of bed if you can. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and I accept I am EXACTLY where I am supposed to be today. You can make lemonade with the cards you are dealt. You live your life like anyone else. I am blessed with a beautiful family & friends. I have met great people & I cannot change the Lyme Disease but I can choose how I want to live my life & I do

It seems like at the flea market I was finding so many different & unusual pieces. I found a box of antique sewing machine parts wanted to play with them. I have never used a skull or skeleton & thought it would be fun. Besides it being a Mexican holiday it focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

I will prove heart over mind can be INCREDIBLE & it was! I did what I would think was impossible but nothing is impossible! Hubbys a hiker I never hiked. It's a 5 mile hike. I said I wanted to climb Angels Landing in Zion Natl Park for my 1st hike before we left. It's the most strenuous hike (could have killed my love when he told me as soon as we got THERE!) but something inside said I NEEDED to do it. In Sedona in the Chapel, I was overcome & teared thinking about the ones in my life & how thankful I was. Outside was an angel with a plaque underneath & I told her I was taking her up to Angels Landing with me. That day I pulled a muscle in my side & back & thought I was done for. 3 days later I felt good but pulled it again where I could not hardly sit. But the morning of the hike it was dull & off I went!

We took off early morning as I felt I'd have the most strength. I was tired & pushing myself before we even hit the trail to go up! That I was going to hike in my camouflage sneakers & my "Lyme Disease Can Kiss my @#$! tee shirt. All I could think about is the angel I promised to get her to the end. Hubby at times had to help lift me up if the next rock was just too high. I could step on it but not push myself up. Halfway up is a bridge. I truly or Ric did not think I would actually make it but to me it was all or nothing.

There is "Walter's Wiggles" that is STEEP switch backs that which is the most awful thing in the world! This is a STEEP vertical hike anyways. I will write something under each picture so you can stand with me on the mountain coming up with me.

Half way up is a bridge so you know how far you went. 3/4 of the way up is "Loserville" where people do not want anymore of the vertical hike. At that point it is very steep & the last 1/2 mile you have a chain to grab to hold on too as there you have an 1800 foot drop sometimes on both sides. We met & talked to so many people on the hike up & it was amazing! They were pushing for me.

After the Lyme standing & hiking in grass would freak me out but I am a monkey & LOVE climbing large rocks! I believe that instead of hiking paths with hubby I'd be scaling the mountains in all seriousness. I actually looked down on my way up & on the top to see a gorgeous view & felt no fear ever! I had my angel(s) with me! Ric was amazing!

The last 1/2 mile with the chains sometimes I did not hold the chains but climbed & nothing was stopping me from going to the top. When we finally hit the top there is a alter which is the highest point of Angel's Landing. But it did not go to the end. I HAD to go to the end & look down. I felt if I was going to do it all-I was going to do it all! The people we met on the way up were so thrilled to see me up there! So many told me on the hike with my attitude I was going to make it & I did!

Gotta say that I have been going up & back thinking Martha our 4+ black lab may like a 'bud' cuz Martha looks like a tummy with legs! We adopted her where they saved her from a kill shelter when she was 4 months old. She has always been quiet & no doubt abused before we got her. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks ago that we adopted Rex. A lifetime ago I had 14 Alaskan Malamutes & this pup is wearing me out! He is almost 3 months old so of course the biting on you (teething) & house breaking I shake my head thinking "how did I do this back then?" And I had 2 kids! ~laughing~ So to get him trained I try to stay a step ahead to avoid accidents. Won't crate him unless I leave. He is a SMART good lil guy-just needs to know the rules. He's lab/shepard mix. Have great weekends. Hugs!

May Is LYME AWARENESS Month

It was not in our heads... it was under our skin. Because of this debilitating disease we feel each others pain as it will strip your life right out of you. The symptoms & damage is HORRENDOUS. Most of us went undiagnosed as cases were not being reported. We never got the bullseye rash that shows that one has Lyme. 80% never get it. Besides Fibromyalgia & Lyme Arthritis (which I can ignore) I was damaged very badly Neurologically. I also have chronic sinusitis which knocks me to my knees post Lyme symptoms like to reek havoc & make all of your other symptome act up worse. In 9+ years I have had 11 piklines-yes that is what you see in the picture, an IV threaded to my heart. I can get 1-3 infusions a day of antibiotics -I have had them in for up to 3-4 months. 11 piklines in 9 years. My art was my saving grace as staying home in bed was not an option. I decide after I could stand up & focus (8 months) I would concentrate on my art. I sold 1400 Wall Dancers dolls each made 1 at a time on Ebay then I went to Etsy. So this be knows what one goes through. the reason for this ugly picture & story is because people tell me Keri if you can do it I can try... I always wanted to paint... I would like to sew ............so my heart & prayers are with you all & I will stand by your side. This is MY story. Last week I was written up in Artizen Magazine. I know everyone wants to ask questions but I do NOT do support groups or get all over Lyme websites. I KNOW what the disease so please try & respect my right to not want to talk sick talk with anyone. I have met great people & learned many lessons on my journey. I cannot change the Lyme Disease but I can choose how I want to live my life & I do! To all of you that have gone through so much of this with me over the years-I love you to pieces! Hugs,

Ok so I morphed again! Cannot have Keri idle or the Lyme would run my life. And I really can cause trouble! Boy the name "KeRicTures" really works! My whole 1st name is in the name & Ric's actually spells us both out! Anyhoo we are embarking on a new venture or adventure! Hubby & I are now collaborating on a new series of art pieces. I sketch the faces & Ric cuts them out but they can have 5-6 layers of masonite to create them. Then I do the painting & assembling.

Next he makes the bodies & then back to me for painting. These are truly whimsical pieces so colorful! They are 26"- 29" tall so good size pieces. Each face will be different but the bodies will stay the same. When people see our work because of the body style they will think "Ric & Keri made these!" Thus the name "KeRicTures". They'll be painted differently & can be a blast in a grouping!

I swore I'd never draw or paint again but being on hold with Comcast (shaking head) I sketched out a few faces. It is time for another change. Hubby who just is a 'wood master' has rendered my drawings out of wood that can be up to 6 layers. He is phenomenal! Now this weekend we are going to make body prototypes probably 2 as some heads are so much larger but we WANT them simple & when anyone sees them they KNOW we made them! No doubt about it! So a work in progress but a fun one. Hugs.

Well I sat down to finish a piece "Two Peas In A Pod" after dragging my butt all week. So I ended up with a whole new piece! ~shaking head laughing~ With the Lyme Disease I seriously forget what I am doing so in this case it was to my benefit! My excuse this week was that I was pretty much out of clay but that IS the truth! Maybe had enough to finish a piece but now there are crumbs in the box literally! So tomorrow after doc I need to pick up a 'biggie' box of Sculpey. No now no excuses! Boy I have not made a doll in forever & actually have traded many.

This piece "Using Our Heads" I REALLY like so much so that I left it on the wall where I shot the pictures. "Sew What???" was hanging there. I keep hardly any of my pieces maybe kept 12 dolls out of 1400!!! Something about this piece I just find cool! Now will it ever come down except to be coated? Now I busted myself! All the pieces I do I take pictures BEFORE I coat them with Poly-Acrylic so no glare! I picked up that trick after 3 or 4 years doing the 'gals' as the glare was ruining their pictures. Now someone gets a piece & comment how much brighter they are in person! ~smilin~ But for all of you that have glare problems....

Hoping your holidays were filled with love, joy & Happiness. That the new year brings you all you can ever hope for. Because of the holidays I had a break as once I start working supplies are EVERYWHERE & I do it in my dining room. Until I am done....things crawl into the kitchen & I have 1/2 of hubby's shop in there. But it is time to get busy again. I did pieces for my kids & their significant others months back so no stress under the gun. My daughter is the educator & top colorist in her salon so her piece speaks for itself! I thought it came out GREAT! My son's guitar he loved as he 'mentioned' the things he loved in different pieces I made so I tried to incorporate them into one.

Besides making pieces for my kids' & their significant others..............with biz slow the work i have been knocking out is filling the house, garage-it is under beds...
But I am having a RIOT! Hubby went & bought me a drill bit set with 200 bits in it-ya think he was bent I was breaking all of his? People with Lyme should not be using sharp objects (like saws) but it is a blast!

It's just too much fun turning crap into art! Finding treasures on Sunday's has been a regular routine. There is a Flea Market here that takes about 3 1/2 hours to walk it. But great treasures are everywhere & my garage is FULL. It will be ending soon as here in Illinois once it's cold they shut down. I must have 50 play things out there so I will continue keeping myself busy. Hugs & love to all! <3

Since my house full of people left last Sunday after they were here for 8 days.........I was ready to play. Putting off cleaning & groceries for a day I started Monday on a creative roll.

I also was contacted from a gal who as a positive Lyme diagnosis along with her teenage daughter. It turned out Shanny lives 20 minutes from me & I referred them to my Infectious Disease docs who are very aggressive in treating Lyme Disease. They WILL do all in their power to deal with the Lyme & all the secondary symptoms that do not go away. On Facebook I am using my pik-line as my profile picture letting her know I am standing beside her & I am here. I can recall how scared I was crawling, could not see or focus, I still walk into walls & brainfog 8+ years later. Set my microwave on fire, had squirrels in my kitchen, the toaster you can find in my frig along with shoes! My Fibromyalgia & Arthritis I can ignore but the Chronic Sinus Infections the Lyme causes & will not respond to oral meds is why I have had 11 pik-lines. Hoo boy I can use a shot of Tequila! When my son moved into his house (we are such pranksters!) Ric found 2 UGLY fringe lamps so when we came to see his new house-Ric left them in his bedroom. So we go to the casino & we get home & I look at the 10' x 10' clock Ric & I built & one of the ugly lamps was on our shelf so this meant war!

Looking for found objects at a HUGE flea market we found a banged up 8 FOOT Marlin. Ric put electrical tape on the nose, made a tiny Nemo fin & carved private parts on it so if you are bashful-DON'T LOOK! So last week we PADLOCKED it to the front entrance on his house & even he had to say "this is a good one!" so good he wanted to leave it up thinking & laughing about his CRAZY parents but there are kids in the neighborhood.

Ever since I did the hubcap for LandFill Art I thought it was just too cool to use discarded or unusual old items as my canvas. The weather is getting gorgeous & the garden looks like it's on steroids! Plants came up now instead of their usual June or July so this is very cool. So why am I making dolls in the house???? I guess we all are suffering the economic mess so you figure that maybe a 'new doll' will appeal to someone. Also with the Lyme I HAVE to stay out of bed so I work & listen to old rock. This afternoon we have heard some very important and impressive presentations. But they were presentations that were sterile scientific discussion. We must not forget that this scientific inquiry is motivated by the human experience of a devastating disease. It must continue to be motivated by that human experience as long as that motivation does not prejudice the scientific method.
Lyme disease patients face tremendous suffering and disability. One study found that chronic Lyme patients experience the quality of life of someone with congestive heart failure or osteoarthritis and suffer more impairment than someone living with type II diabetes or a recent heart attack. Despite the assertions of some researchers that we have the answers that we need, there is much to do in the area of Lyme research. There are many theories that have been studied, recommended further research and that deserve support to conclude their potential validity. As the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (“CBC”) radio program: Ideas: The Bacteria Revolution reported over a decade ago: “Sorting out all the various symptoms caused by tick-borne diseases is no picnic, and both the detection and the treatment of Lyme are surrounded by controversy.”
Lyme disease patients are sick – sick of having their real life experience disclaimed as “anecdotal.” Researchers at Columbia University in New York City published a study in 2008 that added that the fatigue level in chronic Lyme disease patients is equal to that of multiple sclerosis.

Right now I am working on a hubcap (???) for an exhibit & because it was so small I could not get the smallest of dolls on it but used white polymer instead. I guess I could have put the doll faces on with colored clay. Hmmmmmmmm. Maybe I will start again! ~shaking head~ Boy the economy is so bad so sales are down & I NEED to make new things & stay out of bed because of the Lyme so I put some things on sale on Etsy so I guess we'll see if that helps. While Christina and I have mostly worked on tea towels over the past month or so, this week we expanded our Madder Root product offerings to include recipe cards.

Whether it's a new recipe or a treasured family favorite these charming hand printed recipe cards are a perfect addition to your kitchen. All cards are printed on 100% recycled paper. Boy How Things Have Changed!

Barb & I put our hearts & a ton of work into 'our' Etsy store. When we got the store stocked we then sent an email to our customers & buds. My girl did sell 2 paintings & at that point we realized we had a BIG problem. All of our shipping charges defaulted. If Barb sold & painting then I sold 2 plant stakes they would take her shipping charge on that painting. First shipping price on my plant stakes is $5.25 & the rest ship FREE. But Etsy had the plant stakes shipping at $21.00 each! Twenty cents...........ok! It was just as wrong if they bought from me then Barb. We tried everything in our power to make this work. I went to 3 Etsy forums & Tech Help. I was told that "it is best for you each to have your own store as these glitches happen with a Collective Shop."

It poses other challenges also but until you are "really doing a 2 man (women) store" you do not realize how crazy it can be. We moved Barb into my Etsy Store as I am established there & customers know how to find me rather than starting from scratch. For any of you who has an Etsy store we know that we pay our monthly charges & fees, get convos & emails, get Selling Notifications & payment info & we have our Paypal. It's easy!

The store is recognized as 'mine' & EVERYTHING comes to me. So Barb was not privy to emails if her customer had a question. She never got a Transaction notice then I would transfer $ from my Paypal to hers. So ANYTHING concerning Barb HAD to come through me. So I was transferring emails, questions only Barb could answer, & we also were shipping from 2 different destinations. So if a customer wanted info on their shipment-I had to go to Barb. Now we planned on getting a Paypal account with both of us on there so that was the ONLY thing that we could do jointly.

Unless you are at the computer all day....it is more frustrating then you can imagine. Etsy stores are simple & great for one person-a nightmare for two! We all appreciate our customers & we take care of them from Step A to Step B. Things go fine & you get your positive feedbacks.

To do 'our' store customers would be getting wrong shipping charges POSITIVELY so we could refund but we feel that is not the way to do business. If it was only 1 time ok, but now every transaction would be wrong. So not a good thing. Initially in our Etsy store we have 10 folders so I went to Etsy asking if it was possible that each folder could be a different artist bringing all of our customers with us. I thought it was a GREAT idea! So then it was just Barb & I. She will open a store but because of a hectic schedule it may be awhile. At that point I'll attach a link cus she truly is a GREAT artist.

Wishing You All a happy & healthy new year. The holidays were a blast here. With my kids as old as they are (33 & 27) we have so many gag gifts thst we look all year for so it is hysterical around here. Cmon....you have a 'Babe' here that makes Kotex slippers!

I've been a creating fool as sitting here all day would drive me nuts anyways! This week I went back to Ebay for she once started there. 11000 dolls I sold there & this was my 8 year anniversary of the gals. I know that everyone is slammed because of the economy so a ton of trades have been going on. (I have a zillion dolls) hanging around like old luggage & it is so great getting 'presents!' ~smiling~ I resurrected the angels where it's been quite awhile since I made any....Hell I even did vases!

Well I bet everyone is breathing easier with some of the holidays behind us. I hope you all had BEAUTIFUL ones! Ours were wonderful here with the holiday hooplah & a Dec. 23rd & a Dec. 28th birthday to also celebrate!

The reason I chose the snowman pictures was it touched my heart. My daughter Kelly & my granddaughter Hazel Joy outlined their hands & that is what made the wreath. So me being a sentimental fool found it warming my heart & also VERY CREATIVE!

Spring & summer starting so late here made for late blooming. We just got back from a wedding in Minnesota & the garden is a-sproutin'! The hydrangea flowers are literally the size of hubby's head! The hollyhocks down the whole side of the house are hitting 6 feet...now we are talking! Can't wait for the other half of our flowers to bloom. Will keep you posted. Midi Dancers so "Babes" of all shapes & sizes can dance together! Where my original Wall Dancers are approximately 10"-12" in length without their hangers....these Midi 'Babes' are 9"-10" in length. Many of my customers have bought my "Tiny Dancers" to go with their larger dolls using them as gifts or they have also used them as Christmas ornaments. I thought these "Midis" would be great & am just loving them. I hope you do too!

Fun whimsical additions for those who enjoy 'different' and 'unusual.' Extremely 'people friendly' art pieces that are truly charming! My wish is that they will make you feel happy, positive and sometimes even encouraged. That they will always put a smile on your face! They are always ready to hang! Their 'unique' hands & arms are made from wire with beads throughout. They are finished with two coats of Poly-Acrylic gloss. Colors on your monitor may not match the dolls exactly. Since these dolls are created by hand, there may be slight imperfections which just adds to their charm. Being made totally from polymer clay, you must treat her 'kindly.'

Oliver Studies Hypnosis

Hi Keri and all! It's been a while since I've posted so I thought I'd blog a little about Oliver, who I found sitting in my kitchen floor one morning. He was unsuccessfully trying to nab my dark chocolates from the cupboard. When I started to scold him, he tried to pull out the hypnosis on me.

Although Oliver has not been a very good house guest, he served as a perfect muse for my folk-art painting. All I knew when I started this painting was the color scheme: red, black, and white. Oliver provided the subject (however, I had to dissuade him from posing in lingerie in the fear of offending delicate audiences.)

I found myself not overly fond of making them. I wanted the 'diversion' & I guess we have to be careful for what we ask for but as you know with the slumping economy we try to generate a cash flow however we can. So the positive to them. "Bee Happy!" Kotex Slippers

Since this 'blue funk' has left you feeling depleted & lethargic, I wanted to make bedroom slippers for you as a gift. This way you can just 'chill' & enjoy your R & R sweetie in comfort. Love you to pieces!

You'll most likely agree that it's a splendid idea, and should you wish to do the same, I've included the instructions below:
How to make bedroom slippers out of maxi pads:
You need four maxi pads to make a pair.
Two of them get laid out flat, for the foot part. The other two wrap around the toe area to form the top.
Tape or glue each side of the top pieces to the bottom of the foot part.
Decorate the tops with whatever you desire, silk flowers (this is most aesthetically appealing), etc.
These slippers are:
* Soft and Hygienic
* Non-slip grip strips on the soles
* Built in deodorant feature keeps feet smelling fresh
* No more bending over to mop up spills

Well it was time to play with something new but actually I started the plant stakes & vases before the 'gals' were born. I was 'sprucing' up some of my plants as this 'Babe' truly has a huge case of Spring Fever! Seeds have all been started in the house to add o my already full garden. Since my house is FULL I had to carry my compulsive buying to the outside of the house. Never a gardener prior to moving into this townhouse, I have learned to LOVE it! Grab a Bloody Mary & Martha my black lab & we are so content to play in the dirt!

When hubby gets home we do as we call it "our daily plant walk" (what dorks!) & we see what new surprises we have for the day. Martha just hits the door when we tell her what we are going to do! The older we get I think we are more content with the small things & relaxing on the patio smelling flowers .................

The Joys Of Grandchildren

Grandchildren are wonderful. ~sigh~ My oldest Lexi unfortunetly I do not get to see very often & I miss my Punkin'. When she was younger though I would see her a couple of times a month & every Sunday would be 'project day.' I LOVE making a mess & the projects were never small ones. She ADORED them as much as I did-we have always been VERY CLOSE in each other's hearts. Well this weekend I had my precious eldest granddaughter & it was a full day of projects. A great time was had by all!

Oh I so love being a Grandma! Hazel Joy & my daughter Kelly came over for our weekly 'girls day' yesterday. Thursdays have been our 'girls day' since little one was born. Hazel is really testing the waters lately as you can see-if she does not like something-you get the face! She likes to read you stories so her duck book its blah blah DUCK blah blah blah quack quack! Last year there were about 8 different dolls categories with 7-8 artists in each category. I won 2nd place in Doll Assemblage. This year only one Doll Category: 3D dolls & only 7 artists in all of Ebay. I believe we need to place in the top 3 for an award so I guess I am on a ride! The voting dates will be February 21-28 - I'll keep you posted!

It's Shiver Balls Out There! (oops! me bad)

I don't know about all of you 'buds' out there but this 'Babe' has about had it with the cold weather. I think it is time to but peat pots so I can pretend it is planting time soon. After planting oh maybe 85-100 perennials around our townhouse as you get older you find such great pleasure come spring waiting to see what rears it's little head!

Last year it was a beauty-this year hopefully even more color and variety. Martha looks forward to our nightly 'plant walk' where we sit and have few Bloody Marys or shots before dinner. Which is usually done on the grill. Ahhhhhhhh.........it was time for a "Got Spring Fever!" Babe. Hope you are all well & beautiful! Hugs,

Hi there,

My name is Julie Steiner. Keri invited me to post on the blog. Itried doing my own blog for...a week...but it drove me crazy talking to myself!

I started doing art about 4 years ago. I began selling my art on EBAY at that time...which is where I met Keri (It is funny, I see one of my paintings hanging on her wall in her photos here!) Anyhow...I got involved in galleries and shows shortly after that, and just recently returned to EBAY a few months ago. I am re-learning the ropes there these days...

Today has been a day full of surprises, and not very friendly ones!

I woke up this morning covered in slimy mini monsters!

gross....slime trails, gooey eyes, and the worst part is they bite!

Then I went down stairs to make some coffee & I see that I have a new visitor. Peter, and I had just explained to all my mealy monsters, no more monsters, and don't they turn around and invite all of these guys over.

What am I going to do?
