Recently I've been working with some great Etsy artists in a number of collaborations. I don't think I can say enough about how wonderful it is to share and learn from another Etsian. Most are so generous with their time and advice and I really try to pay it forward by doing the same for a newbie if asked.
This piece was an effort to show off the wonderful lampwork bead made by Patty Lakinsmith, of Plays with Fire. Her beads are incredible! I tried to accent the colors by heat coloring the brass and copper I used. The hem of the piece was melted into shape, so I think it's safe to say my torch was the major player here. I made the chain and clasp, then oxidized the whole collar to give it an organic, antique-y look. For movement, the bead was encased in copper and suspended using a heavy gauge wire.

Isn't this bead something? When Patty was making this for me to use, she made the back of the bead flat so it would lay well against the piece. But the front has texture and lovely little balls that really set off the contrasting colors. Check out her shop and website.
One of the problems I've had since making this piece has been whether or not to list it in my Etsy store. I want to wear it!!!! The debate has gone on for days, but I think I've finally decided to list it, because I'm hoping other bead artists will want to show off one of their beads in this or another design.
Till next time!
