Good morning Keri and everyone! I am in need of a little help... I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Master Mache or Clay-Shay? Here is a doll in progress that I'm making for a friend and I've decided to make her body from Master Mache (a paper mache mix) and now that it is dry, I'm afraid it won't be as strong as I like. The head is made from Apoxie Sculpt which is SUPER strong and the armature is simply a glass bottle. I guess my questions are: 1) will the mache adhere well to the armature? 2) do I need to strengthen it with a sealer to keep it held together? 3) Does anyone have a favorite brand/recipe for mache?
Thanks guys and have a wonderful day! Renee :)

Hi Renee my lil honey! I know NOTHING about paper mache whatsoever so you unfortunetly will not get ny help from me. One thing I DO know is when I first did my dolls 6 years ago I found my poly-acrylics would leave some dolls sticky. My father-in-law used to be the head chemist at 3M so I asked him about it. Polymer has its own attributes & chemicals so now putting a new chemical on it can really change cause big problems. He recommended a WATER based Poly-acrylic & I have not had a problem since. Polymer is not a strong substance either My granddaughter taught me 100 ways to break my dolls!
My suggestion honey would to go online & go to Mache or Clay-Shay & there may be a number to call & I would ask. They may have a good solution for you! Hugs & love darling. Wish I could help!
Oh I wish I could help but I have no experience in this department. The head looks fabulous though - best of luck!
Thanks guys! Keri, luckily I have a water-based sealer that I used and it worked great (I hadn't tried it before!) So far, so good with the doll. I gave it to my friend yesterday and at she appeared to really like it :)!
There's a new posting on Wall Dancers if you'd like to leave well wishes for Keri. Let's let her know how much she's loved and missed!
