Going Pink for October

I'm happy to announce that once again we'll be participating in the Going Pink for October campaign. Pink for October is an initiative to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research by making websites pink and wearing a badge.

This year along with with wearing a pink badge on our websites we will also be sponsoring a prize for a contest the P4O website will be holding, increasing awareness through our graphic design shop by offering banners and badges and featuring several postings here throughout the month of October.

Since Etsy doesn't allow me to post free items in my graphic shop, the money earned from the sales of the banners and badges will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
I will be creating a specially designed Woven Wire Beaded Bracelet featuring a pink flower focal by the talented Zuda Gay, that also includes a pink ribbon bead and a selection of pink accompanying beads.

Sadly my mother lost her nine year battle with breast cancer when I was a child. She lived at a time when mammograms and prevention awareness were unheard of. I'm thankful that today we have measures which can help families live long lives together as breast cancer not only affects women but touches the lives of men as well.

It would be wonderful if you could help spread the word as well by posting a badge on your blog or shop. Together we can make a difference.

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone! I always enjoy stopping in and seeing what everyone has posted in the last week or so! Here is my latest finished creation, which I gave away on a whim to anyone who read my blog and now she is somewhere in transit to CA! I hope she adjusts OK!

Sometimes I lose my UMPH and then I realize I need to do something new. I kind of feel like that right now. I think my next work will be my first ART CARD! Does anyone here make mixed media art cards? I can't paint or draw a lick (southern saying!) but I was thinking of sculpting onto the card and maybe just painting the background a little. What do you guys think?
P.S. Keri, you've been tagged! Come see my Funky Folky blog for details!

An Angel From an Angel

Yesterday this GORGEOUS angel arrived from my dear friend Laurie. I cannot begin to express what she means to me. Right now I just wanted to share her with you & as soon as I find 'her a home' in a window I will update the picture as she will and is spectacular!!!!!!!

Thank you sweet friend for your kind and generous gift, every time I see her I will think of you. Laurie made this "Protect This Woman" angel from the bottom of her heart and she will always remain so SPECIAL to mine. With love and hugs (doin' the Keri dance!) thank you honey.
A zillion hugs.
Keri

To view her WONDERFUL work I will list a couple of her links below-her work is gorgeous!

They come in three.

Not much going on besides the new schedule of "things to do", so I'm still adapting. My recent computer crash has me reinstalling software after software to get back on track.

I did finish this painting. "The Yellow Dress", a triptych on gallery wrapped canvas.

This is a 3-set of 4 x 5 inch canvases, that are ready to hang. The 3/4 inch, staple-free sides are painted, as well. Acrylics used; varnish is sprayed on, glossy finish.

On Etsy.

Hi
Angie here of www.artangel.etsy.com.

The lovely - and very kind - Keri has invited me to post my new work here, so here it is!

This is one of my "hearts" series of mixed media paintings - this particular one is a small canvas, 7 x 5", though I have made these in many sizes. I first paint the canvas with acrylic paints, then I cut out the hearts by hand before adding them to the canvas and finishing with more painting. I have a huge collection of papers, including some from my old work and sketchbook pages. The best bit of the process is picking out which papers to use!

Anyway hope you like it, and thanks again Keri!

Mr. Potato Head Came Back For More!

Reality'sendlessblue says:
I was not trying to say anything about you personally, I just do not care for this piece of art. I have many friends and other acquantices who have lost interest in art because they find the people who create art no longer treat it with respect. There used to be a standard that artists tried to hold themselves to, but in this day and age, anything can be art. While that is vary freeing, it also allows for many cheap and cheesy pieces to be displayed. They digrade art as whole, and people loose respect for art and artists themselves when they see something that looks it took ten minutes to create and was crafted from thrift store materials. I have nothing against you, you may be a wonderful person, but just because you have lyme disease doesn't mean I'm oblicated to feign over your work. You need to stop playing victim and learn how to accept criticism, and if you don't like my comments, you can delete them. But I wouldnt have said what I did if I wasn't passionate and I truly cared for art. Passion does not mean loving everything you come in contact with, that's delusional. Passion is having stroing opinions and the ability to express them. I think art is precious and there are certain standards it needs to hold, and I just find this piece, well, hideoussly cheap. Obviously many disagree, and you can at least take pride in that fact, but this piece just makes me feel sad about the state of affairs art has fallen into...

My Last Drawing

The day I heard on my stereo at work that Frank Zappa died I grabbed my pen & did this stipple drawing. I had no reference material or picture but 'just played.' Since I left my Senior Design position to be a bartender I swore I would never draw or paint again but this I did in '93.

But my dear friends. ~shaking head laughing~ You are such sweethearts to send your kindness as that is what friends do. I have learned to love each & every one of you & seeing you 'defend' me is just too cute!!!!!! The reality is that he has a right to his opinion. From his profile I feel he is a 'newer' art student. What I did not tell him is that I was at The American Academy studying illustration after receiving full scholarships to The Art Institute of Chicago & Berkeley while he was probably pooping in his diapers!!!!!!!! That I am a trained illustrator & my favorite medium was pen & ink. So as I looked as his work I had to shake my head thinking If he is going to talk the talk & walk the walk! Love you all to pieces!
